Welcome to Tavistock Forward

Tavistock Forward was conceived in January 1999 by the residents of Tavistock, Devon in response to the strongly promoted concept of active involvement by local communities in England's counties.

The 'EatWise ~ Eat Local' campaign led by Tavistock Forward, covering Tavistock and the surrounding area have won the Best Local Food Award & Best Overall Food Town competition!

What is Tavistock Forward?

Tavistock Forward members are from Tavistock, Devon in the UK, who are involved in local businesses, including West Devon Borough Councillors, Town Councillors, local residents and people from schools and colleges. Initially following the Foot & Mouth outbreak, the Group was invited to identify travel needs and the provision of transport services at local community level.

By March in the same year, members were discussing a whole series of projects including a riverside walkway, teen cafe, hoppa bus, town signage and a Millennium party!

Throughout the development and expansion of projects carried out by Tavistock Forward over the years, close liaison with the people and other organisations in and around Tavistock has been the key to the groups' success.

Now approaching it's 10th year, we hope that this website will provide everyone with another means to see what is happening around their town, but also to participate in the projects and aims of Tavistock Forward.

To encourage greater, sustainable, economic health for the area

To improve and promote the vitality and viability of the town

To enhance and conserve the outstanding historic character

To improve accessibility and mobility for all, to and within the town of Tavistock

To act as a catalyst for interaction with established groups to enable the development of community facilities, activities and interests.
