THE GUILDHALL PROJECT
The Guildhall, situated in the historic Bedford Square in Tavistock, is under review following the closure of the Magistrates Court some 5 years ago. Since then the Court has largely remained empty except for the occasional charity fund raising event.
Now with the new World Heritage status, Tavistock is becoming recognised as the 'Gateway' being close to the Tamar Valley and has many historical connections through mining and trade. Tavistock is also linked by it's Canal which leads to Morwellham Quay, once the world's largest exporter of arsenic. Favoured uses of the Guildhall buildings recently described as the 'jewel' in the town, are a Food and Visitor Centre.
